Hoeing reinvented.

Jäkel sets standards in mechanical weed control

1. Challenge in the field

The weather changes brought about by climate change are having a significant impact on soil conditions in some cases, suddenly turning standardised tasks such as hoeing into a real challenge.

"We need really sharp cutting tools that can cope with even very hard soils." – Marvin Schütz, farmer and contractor

  • Dry, crusted soils
  • High weed pressure despite dry conditions
  • Sweeps reach their limits
  • High repair costs due to frequent replacement

2. The solution: Jäkel Hoeing blades

The hoeing blades are a new type of tool that enables effective chopping even under difficult conditions.

"Our basic idea was to come up with a solution that glides through the soil a bit like a thread." – Dr Stefan Schwarte, Head of Research and Development at Jäkel

  • Pulling instead of pushing
  • Significantly less earth movement
  • Effective cutting even on hard soils

3. Design & function

The hoeing blades are flat instead of curved, which reduces earth movement and improves cutting performance.

The reinforced nose breaks up crusted soil before the actual cutting process begins.

The hoeing blades can be quickly replaced using screw connections and adjusted precisely to the soil conditions.

  • Flat shape with triangular base structure
  • Reinforced nose for breaking up the soil
  • Adjustable angle of inclination
  • Blade replacement in less than a minute

4. Material & sustainability

Our new hoeing blades set new standards in terms of durability and sustainability. Made from JADU-H1 special steel and developed for long-term use, they offer outstanding service life thanks to their laser-based hard coating.

The sophisticated system solution with a reusable handle saves material and costs and actively contributes to sustainability by reducing raw material consumption.

  • JADU-H1 special steel: robust & durable
  • Developed for continuous use
  • Laser coating for maximum service life
  • Sustainable system solution
  • Reusable handle saves material and costs
  • Reduced raw material consumption

5. Practical results & user testimonials

In many cases, a single pass is enough to effectively chop all weeds.

Jäkel hoeing blades cut cleanly into the soil – regardless of how dry it is.

"Two Allen screws, quickly aligned – and the new blade is in place." – Marvin Schütz, farmer and contractor

  • First-class hoeing and soil loosening results
  • Low earth movement, high efficiency
  • Blade replacement five times faster than with coulters
  • Positive feedback from numerous field trials

6. Availability & contact

  • The official market launch of the hoeing blades will take place at Agritechnica 2025 (9 to 15 November in Hanover).
  • The knives are available in all standard sizes – customised special designs are also possible.
